The 409 Cortina is a full collection that makes a WOW statement on any retail store. The style is understated Bold Italian, which sounds like a contradiction in terms but means that the scale and movement makes it bold without a lot of ornamentation. What little carving Villa Cortina uses is found on the bed and mirror top scrolled frame in a classic shell motif. The overdone ornamentation is replaced on Villa Cortina with deep moldings as seen on the canted corners of the cases. The appeal and look of Villa Cortina is the shape of the cases, the bold moldings, and veneer treatment and of course the finish.
The veneer selection and Villa Cortina finish go hand in hand. The laurel burl has a softer grain than the normal white ash burl and we utilize larger pieces for a more sophisticated look. Laurel Burl comes from colder regions of South American and is a tree that naturally produces burl through its twisted growth patterns and the elements it braves. The borders around the laurel burl are called hedugia and have a contrasting “rosewood” appeal. The bright finish applied to these veneers is a deep rich brown finish with a higher sheen or luster that gives Villa Cortina a deep finish.
